Course Introduction
This Training API 579 Fitness-For-Service intensive five-day training course is designed to give the participants a basic understanding of pressure vessel and pressure piping design codes, the damage mechanisms that play a significant role once a newly constructed equipment is placed into service, and how to use acceptable industry-standard simple techniques by field engineers for assessment for fitness-For-service before a run, repair, replace decision is taken or call for an expensive expert advice. The participants would be explained in detail the mechanics of adopting and applying the code rules for day-to-day use in their professional work. Lessons are enhanced by actual in-class problem-solving, directly applying the rules and equations used in the Fitness-For-Service methodologies.
The course also introduces the High-Temperature Hydrogen Attack (HTHA) damage mechanisms (API 941), the industry standard best practice FFS for Heavy Wall Hydroprocessing Reactors and issues with Reactor Effluent Air Cooler (REAC).
This training course will:
- Provide a basic understanding of the ASME pressure vessel and pressure piping design codes in simplified form.
- Provide an awareness of the code and regulations that govern the design and operation of a process plant.
- Provide basic knowledge of damage mechanisms that affect the newly constructed equipment once placed into service.
- Provide the concept of FFS and scientific methods for assessing the damage, and remaining life and make a run, re-rate, repair or replace decision.
- Make a decision at field level by Plant Engineers by doing simple quick assessments before calling expensive Third-Party expertise.
Objectives
At the end of this training course, attendees will learn to:
- Understand the relationship between new construction Codes, Inspection Codes and Fitness-For-Service.
- Understand the importance of following an acceptable industry best practice.
- Gain insight of design basis, and concept of Fitness-For-Service.
- Learn to deal with an acceptable assessment method in a plant level.
- Interpret a third party FFS Report.
Additionally, by taking this training, attendees will have the following benefits:
- Enhance their knowledge base.
- Be more confident in their decision-making.
- Be technically sound -understand the technical basis of doing a fitness-for-service.
- Do field level fitness-for-service before calling a Third-Party Inspection service.
- Participate in a wider inter-department/ Third-Party discussion on equipment remaining life.
Target Audience
Engineers from Engineering and Operating companies who are involved in the operation and maintenance of a process plant. Professionals need to add to their current experience and knowledge the basics of the acceptable damage assessment standard/best practice used for pressure equipment and piping. New graduates who want to learn about ‘what goes wrong in a process plant and what is an acceptable industry standard for damage assessment’ will immensely benefit from this course by setting their basics right at the onset of their careers.
This course is suitable for a wide range of professionals but will greatly benefit:
- Inspection Engineers, QA/QC Engineers
- Mechanical Engineers – Technical,
- Material Engineers
- Field/Plant Engineers
- Maintenance Engineers
